Halo 3 Walkthrough

Gamasutra reports new details of Nintendo’s upcoming bussiness plan for their virtual console. Nintendo CEO Satoru Iwata commented,

“Let’s say your Wii is connected to the Internet in a mode that allows activation on a 24-hour basis. This would allow Nintendo to send monthly promotional demos for the DS, during the night, to the Wii consoles in each household. Users would wake up each morning, find the LED lamp on their Wii flashing, and know that Nintendo has sent them something. They would then be able to download the promotional demo from their Wii’s to their Nintendo DS’s.”

Nintendo sending me demos for games? This can end up being a flop or the greatest thing ever for developers and even homebrew gamers. Wii-Connect24 details will be coming soon as the console comes to release. We hope to find the news of the prices of these services and the games and backwards compatability with older titles.

Well, there would be a better way to do this. Making it so that whenver the Wii is on, it will download the content would be better than having the system on all the time, thus making it accessable 24 hours. This, in later terms, can bring up security issues, not to mention that fact, even though extremely small, whasted electricity. I think they should just have such content download when the person is using the console, and not have a hibernation activity such as that.

Anyways, it’s still gonna be cool to get demos and such, hell I’m just looking forward to the console, Zelda and Metroid at release!

I’m concerned about security issues as well, although I find it hard to believe nintendo would allow the system to be prone to hackers. i hope they do something about that.

and i remember them saying that when its off it uses roughly the same amount of power as just 1 of those little lightbulbs you put in those small flashlights. it probably wont be a big deal.

It’s a Wii, not a computer. I can leave Xbox Live on all the time, but has anyone honestly heard of it being hacked into with viruses and such? It’s not happened and likely never will. The chance of Nintendo not taking futher precautions beyond that is close to nothing, I’d imagine.

Obviously if you don’t want it on all the time, all you need to do is not leave it in standby mode. On the PStwo, this is as simple as unplugging it (since it doesn’t have a switch on the back like the original model). It’ll only be able to download things when it’s on, so the choice really still remains. Personally, given what a pain it currently is to download stuff on Live since it doesn’t allow downloading in the background (until the upcoming patch anyway), I wouldn’t mind this.
