New Wii-Mote Details Revealed!

In response to a IGN update, there seems to be newly confirmed Wii-mote information ready for those excited Wii-ers, though it isn't a "huge" jump.

According to IGN, Nintendo has updated their Wii Developer Documentation for those companies developing games for the upcoming console. The update includes information on how to access and directly use the speaker found on the Wii-mote. Now, what is the new feature? Well, apparently the Wii-mote has approximently 4,000 bytes of internal memory. This is intended to save controller preferences, made by the player, for games they play, directly on the Wii-mote. Every time you play the game, the Wii-mote will be commanded to setup the preferenced saved for easy, ready-to-go gameplay.

Now, as more interesting tidbits have emerged, it seems the folks over at Go Nintendo have gotten some information out of NGamer Magazine, stating the following:

  • Sensor bar is “50% smaller”, “little bigger than a couple of pencils glued together.”
  • Wii-mote runs on two AA batteries, offering around 60 hours of gameplay. That amount’s reduced to half (around 30 hours) if using the sensor bar though.
  • [Talking about SD cards] “these tiny cards can be used to store game saves and virtual console games, but Digital Right Management features mean you can’t play your games on someone else’s Wii.”

(The above was directly from Go Nintendo). Interesting information, especially the last tidbit. "Digital Right Management" eh? Does this mean they might be going to the path Sony was going with, or does it refer to the use of Virtual Console games only? Time will tell... and with Nintendo, time is what we always expect :(
