Nintendo held a press conference in Japan at about midnight EST this morning. It was used primarily to announce that the DS Lite will support Opera Web browser and a TV Tuner add-on. Neither of which will be included via firmware, however.
The Opera Web browser will release in the form of a software in Japan, in the month of June. It will cost approximately $30.
The TV Tuner, called “1Seg Digital TV Card”, will come as a peripheral that attatches into the DS game slot. Unfortunately the 1seg is a “mobile terrestrial digital audio/video broadcasting service in Japan”, meaning the US may never see this device.
There is no word concerning a US release for DS Lite, Opera Web Browser or the TV Tuner.
Also at the press conference, Nintendo announced upcoming DS games. Titles include:
Calligraphy Training DS
Super Robot Wars
Dynasty Warriors
Winning Eleven Nine
Dynasty Warriors and Winning Eleven Nine were confirmed to support Nintendo Wi-Fi Connection.
Other already known games were discussed at the event, such as The New Super Mario Brothers (set for a May Japan-release), Tetris DS, Children of Mana and Xenosaga Episode 1-2.
