Square-Enix Shot down FFXI-2 Rumor

While I was not one of the many to post the news that Square-Enix was developing a Sequel to the popular MMO Final Fantasy XI, it doesn't mean that I wasn't monitoring the situation. Mid yesterday a variety of sites started posting that FFXI-2 was in the works and that were was even video and screenshots over at IGN. However this is entirely untrue. The next MMO is not a sequel to Final Fantasy XI, and were not even sure if it's in the Final Fantasy Universe.

1up.com dugg up this bit of information in regards to the MMO:
this title is being developed as a completely new MMORPG (Massive Multiplayer Online RPG). We will disclose further details of this title, including platform compatibility, immediately after any relevant decisions are made.
My guess is that Square-Enix will reveal more information in September at TGS.
