Anyone remember the Phantom Gaming Service? It was apparently the gaming service that was suppose to mark a revolution amougst how people play games. After a series of delays and well fallbacks in the company, Infinium Labs faces one of the hardest blows in its company. The man in charge quits.
Kevin Bachus resigned from the post of CEO, CFO, president and a director last week, and Greg Koler has temporarily stepped into his place. There is still no release date for the Phantom Gaming system, with the website only saying the most vague of statements of their service, I dont expect much to come out.
Not only mention the fact next generation consoles coming out from the big providers such as Sony and Mircosoft. We can all assume that the Phantom will be another failed attempted system.

the phatom is an online gaming service. It will offer basically the same thing as xbox live and the revolution online serivce. Downloadable games and online play without ever actually buying the game. Kinda like sega tv but with more legit hardware. The console will fail regardless way to late to come out with it now.

Sure. The new CEO is an old colleague of mine so I am in tune with the “theory”, it’s basically a subscription service. You buy the phantom or get it for free and then pay a monthly fee to be able to play on line. You can store various user profiles eg: If your dad logs in it will give him access to his games catalogue and so on etc. You don’t actually buy or own any games as I understand it.
Personally I think the Phantom is a good idea for a few years ago but how many people really need or want another games machine. If it was mind blowing technology that took us to another level in terms of graphics and user experience then great but it appears to be a “me-too” product.
For me the Xbox Live environment is very cool and I for one cant’ see what the Phantom can do that Xbox Live can’t.
I think Death God is right, it’s way way too late.
What would b cool is if someone came up with a cross platform multiplayer system that you could use through your TV, say a system that could log in to Playstation, Xbox and PC environments. Don’t think it will happen though.
