The Legend of Zelda: Phantom Hourglass

Let us all rejoice, for today is a beautiful day. The next game in the long line of Zelda games has been announced today at GDC. It will be for the DS and is called Phantom Hourglass.
But that’s not all!
We also got a short trailer which can be viewed by clicking this link.
The most immediate thing one notices is that this game will incorporate cell-shaded graphics, just like The Wind Waker did. But the view has changed, we now see things in a Link to the Past “top-down” style.
But the clincher is that because the game is gonna be played on the DS, the top screen will be used mainly for maps and the touch screen the action. The touch screen will incorporate functions such as drawing a path for the boomerang, directing the ship and drawing symbols to unlock doors.
This is exactly how cell-shaded graphics were meant to be seen - on a handheld system. Why? Well if you ask me, cell-shaded graphics are not meant to be presented in a grandiose manner like they would be on a big screen TV. It just doesn’t seem right. Twilight Princess represents the style that you would like to see on bigscreen TV. But putting it on small screen with an underpowered graphics chip is how it should be. In fact I think I’d be much less satisfied if they chose to give the game more of an Ocarina of Time style presentation. Right now I am actually more excited for this game than I am Twilight Princess.
Oh yeah and it is supposed to be released this year.

I just realzied that it is quite possible that both Phantom Hourglass and Twilight Princess could be released simultaneously.. which would be unprecedented in zelda history and could either man maximum zelda pwnage extravaganza or it could be really lame… i dunno

LOL I know how you feel man.. it is supposed to come out this year and is gonna be presented at e3 so my guess is that it will be released during the holiday season, probably sometime in november and I wouldn’t be surprised if it was released on the same day as twilight princess.
in fact I was thinking that since the DS and Rev are supposed to have wireless connectivity, maybe when you play twilight princess on revolution you can “connect” your phantom hourglass game to it and maybe do a sidequest or something like that.

even if they did give us an exact date, you would have to assume that it would get delayed at least once.

i wish i had a ds but i think its linked to the wind waker because of the ship and it sounds dark and scary with the word “phantom” so i think big boy behind this opperation is ganon who has phantom ganon back or phantom ganon himself or maybe you can be a phantom…….. or maybe its just the hourglass lol

This looks like a pretty good game. The graphics are pretty good, but they look a bit shaky. It kind of reminds me of the Nintendo 64. I was a little unsure how easily the touch screen would be to use in this game, but it looks pretty good from the preview. Anyone know when it comes out?
