Square-Enix Talks big, but for good reason?

Recently in an interview with the Wall Street Journal, Square Enix senior VP Michihiro Sasaki made some remarks that may be a little to bold, or even to cocky but regardless of this they carry some truth.
“We don’t want the PlayStation 3 to be the overwhelming loser, so we want to support them,” he said. “But we don’t want them to be the overwhelming winner either, so we can’t support them too much.”
So basically according to mister Sasaki, they alone can determine whether a console does well or not? I mean this is a Final Fantasy and Kingdom Hearts fansite. But the fact is, a lot of other games are selling these systems.
On the other hand when I personally think about Playstation 2, almost all the games that come to mind are Square-Enix produced. So maybe they really can pull some strings in the background and determine how well one some of the game companies do.
The simple fact that most of you on the site that want a Playstation 3 is because of the two Final Fantasy XIII titles.

Final Fantasy is to Sony as Zelda is to Nintendo. They’re both mega system sellers and IMO can determine the success of a console. What Square-Enix said might be cocky but its damn true.

As far as I am concerned,Sony has got about 30% stock of the square-enix corporation. In this case,is it possible for square-enix to pull strings for SCE?Or is it more possible for SCE to interfere with square-enix?
