Sony really seems to be at a lose of ideas, and dignity. While no one can really complain that Sony would announce an online service to compete with the Xbox Live service, it is amazing to note that they are taking features from live and simply renaming them. For those of you with an Xbox 360 I am sure you are aware of the Achievements for when you beat a level with a certain time, or complete an area without ever dying. The idea of Achievements is cool, it ads a little bit to the game and lets you show off how much you have achieved in a game.
However a bad idea is stealing that idea and calling them entitlements. Ben Kuchera says it best:
It’s a terrible name, don’t you think? I wince every time I think of my screen flashing to tell me I’ve unlocked an entitlement. Why should I have to earn them? Aren’t I entitled to them? Why is Sony trying to keep them from me? The name just sounds pretentious and off-putting. When have you ever associated anything positive with the word entitlement?

[…] I am sure you guys all remember the Xbox 360 commercial campaign of “Jump In,” they were short and sweet. The ads were effective at displaying fun and excitement. The Playstation 3 ad however, is 3 minutes long and well… I found it really boring. Sony is going with the Slogan “This is Living,” which much like entitlements doesn’t make very much sense. The Commercial tries to explain how the Playstation 3 is a living being because it can do gaming in real-time, which is funny considering all the footage we have seen from the Playstation 3 hasn’t been in real-time yet. I think it’s about time they had achievements. Entitlements they may be called, but achievements they still are. Don’t let he name put you off. I think Sony are trying their best to beat xbox 360, and if they keep adding more features like the 360, they might succeed.
