Before you head to Tyrano Lair, visit the trader to get new weapons. First, outfit Crono and whoever else you're taking,
then if you have the items, the other characters. If not, head to the hunting range and find the Nu so you can get items
and Tech Points. Trade House Items: 3 Petals + 3 Fangs = Dream Gun 3 Petals + 3 Horns = Dream Bow 3 Petals + 3 Feathers = Magma Hand 3 Fangs + 3 Horns = Aeon Blade 3 Fangs + 3 Feathers = Ruby Vest 3 Horns + 3 Feathers = Rock Helm You shouldn't need the Ruby Vest and Rock Helm since you already have them or stronger armor. When ready, ride the Dactyl east over the lava fields to find Tyrano Lair. Once inside, head north until you come to two dinosaur skulls. The right one is the only one accessible so go through and down the stairs. Kill the reptites and then examine the sphere on the jail cell to free the Laruba Villagers. Continue right, killing the reptites and down the stairs. You'll get scene with some reptites, then you'll have to kill them. Afterwards, you get a scene with Kino. Grab the egg thing (which is a chest and will be referred to as such from now on) with a [MID ETHER] inside the cell, then follow him up to the entrance and he will open the other skull entryway. Head to each side and hit the switches to drop the monsters, then head out through the right. When you reach the room with the two chests, grab the left one for a [FULL TONIC]. Don't open the right one or you will be dropped into the jail cell and will have to fight the 4 monsters you just dropped. Head back to the previous room and head left. This next room is complicated. When you approach certain places, you will be teleported to another part of the room.
Head up the stairs and out. Head all the way to the right past the barred doorway and into the room. Inside, hit the switch on the right to open up the skull, then go inside and hit the other switch, which will open the barred door outside. Head into the barred gate and walk past Nizbel II. You can talk to him, but he won't attack you. S&S at the Save Point and attempt to continue on. Nizbel II will attack you.
This is the same as the battle with the original Nizbel. The only difference is that even when he's shocked, he'll still attack. Since you have stronger attacks, you might want to use them instead of the ones use in the previous battle. For example, use Lightning 2 instead of Lightning, and try Volt Bite or Falcon Hit. Also try your third character's strongest attack or use them to heal. S&S and then continue on. In this new area, head all the way across into the door. In this room, hit the switch in the middle to make a Save Point appear. Use it if you need too. Next, approach the skull and examine it. Head inside and hit the switch to make the barred doorway outside open up. Also get the [FULL ETHER] next to the switch. You should use the Save Point so you don't have to do all of this over again. Next, just for laughs, if you want, hit the left switch to open up the floor, then hit the right to make the monsters drop. Or if you want to fight the monsters then don't hit the left switch. At this point, Ayla should know Charm. If not, try to get her to learn it. Also, if you have Marle, get her to learn Haste. If you're using her then it will come in handy. Go back outside and head to the middle, then go up. In the next room, you get a scene with Azala. Grab the [CERATOPPER] and [MID ETHER] from the chests and follow Azala.
Here's an actually tough boss battle. Azala does little to moderate damage while the Black Tyrano does high damage. First, kill Azala because the Black Tyrano won't lower his defense until Azala is dead, plus Azala has the lowest HP. Next, use your strongest attacks on the Black Tyrano. Heal immediately when he chews up a character because that attack deals alot of damage. When he starts to countdown, heal up and attack with everything you have. He's going to use a fire-based attack on the whole party for high damage. This can be reduced if your characters are equipped with Ruby Vests, which lower Fire damage. Afterwards, you get a scene and then you end up on the world map. Where Tyrano Lair was, is a big crater. Enter it for another scene. Head through the gate here for another scene. Head back through to the end of time and heal and save. Ayla is now a permanant character and you can remove her from the party now. |
