Now you have Crono back in your party, permanantly. This section is optional. You can go fight Lavos at this point,
but I doubt you're ready, plus you might want to take on the sidequests to level up and get the strongest equipment.
Talk to Gaspar and he'll hint on who, where, and when to do the sidequests. Talk to each of your party members. They
will all show you which sidequests you should take them on, except for Ayla and Marle. But Marle will tell you where
to take her and Ayla will tell you where to get some strong Fireproof armor.
Sidequest Overview: Just a brief overview. In-depth walkthrough afterwards. (note: Rob has included the sidequest has a portion of this section, I will include the sidequest in this page, if you want to view them seperatly you can do so in the sidequest section) + Lucca The Sun Stone Sidequest- A lone island in the Future - You do not need to take Lucca with you Lara's Legs- Done during Robo's sidequest "Fiona's Forest" + Marle Her Family Affair- Can be started any time after you defeat Magus, but is unavailable after you do the Rainbow Shell sidequest - Visit Guardia Castle in the Present Rainbow Shell Sidequest- Doesn't really need to be present for the first half of this sidequest - Get the Rainbow Shell in the Middle Ages, then visit Guardia Castle in the Present with Marle in your party + Frog Cyrus Sidequest- Visit the carpenter in Choras in 600 A.D., then visit the one in 1000 A.D. - Visit the repaired Northern Ruins in Choras with Frog in your party + Robo Origin of Machines- Take Robo to Geno Dome in the Future. A lone island east of the cave in Lucca's sidequest Fiona's Forest- Head to the Sunken Desert and defeat the boss. Robo doesn't need to be present. - Find Robo in Fiona's Shrine in the present for a scene + Ayla Ruby Mail- Trade 10 of each item for the Ruby Armor, which reduces Fire Damage by 80%. Useful for Lucca's sidequest and the first half of Marle's sidequest + Magus Ozzie returns- Magus doesn't need to be present, but there is more dialogue with him - Ozzie's Fort in the middle ages to the east of Magus's Castle + Other Black Omen- Should be done last. Leads to Lavos Let's start with Marle's first sidequest.
Sidequest 1 | Character: Marle | Era(s): Present [1000 A.D.]
|
||||||||||||||||
|
Items: Hyper Ether, Elixir, Full Ether, Jerky Money: None Monsters: None Characters: None Recommended Characters: Marle, Crono, Lucca Head to Guardia Castle in the Present with Marle in your party. After a scene, head to the right side. Head up the stairs and grab a [HYPER ETHER] from the chest. There is another chest up the stairs, but you can't get to it now. Head to the throne room and talk to the King for a scene. Head to the King's Room. On the way, grab the [ELIXIR]. In the King's Room, get the [FULL ETHER] from the chest, then talk to the King. Head back to the throne room and talk to the Chancellor. Your next stop is Snail Stop in Porre. Buy a [JERKY] and take it to the King. After a scene, you're kicked out of the castle. You can enter the castle, but you can't enter the King's room. You should grab the [MEGA ELIXIR] from the chest in Marle's Room (The Queen's Room). That's one sidequest finished. The continuation is in Sidequest 3.
Sidequest 2 | Character: Ayla | Era(s): Prehistoric [65 Million B.C.]
|
||||||||||||||||
|
Items: Ruby Armor Money: None Monsters: None Characters: None Recommended Characters: Doesn't Matter Head to the Prehistoric Era and visit the trading hut. The Trader will give you a [RUBY MAIL] if you give him 10 of each item. The Ruby Mail reduces Fire damage by 80%. You'll need it for the next sidequest and a later sidequest. Get at least 3 of them. This sidequest is finished.
Sidequest 3 | Character: Marle | Era(s): Middle Ages [600 A.D.], Present [1000 A.D.]

Items: Toma's Pop, Speed Tab, Sight Cap, Power Tab, Blue Rock, Zodiac Cape, Lapis x3, Hyper Ether x2, Elixir x2
Prism Shard, Yakra Key Money: None Monsters: Gigasaur, Lizardactyl, Fossil Ape, Leaper, Rubble, Rust Tyrano [L.BOSS] Gnasher, Naga-Ette, Yakra XIII [BOSS] Characters: None Recommended Characters: Crono, Magus, Marle (First Part); Marle, Crono, Lucca (Second Part) Head to 600 A.D. to Choras, the continent to the east. Head inside the Pub and talk to Toma. You'll get [TOMA'S POP]. Head to 1000 A.D. to Choras and visit Toma's Grave. Examine it and you will get a scene. Check behind his grave for a [SPEED TAB]. Take the Epoch to the area Toma showed you, in the Middle Ages, a Island called Giant's Claw is to the west of Choras the south of Ozzie's Fort. Equip the 3 Ruby Armors and head in. (Note: If you're using Lucca, you don't have to give her a Ruby Armor since her Taban Suit has higher defense and has "Fire Guard Up", but it is recommended since the Ruby Armor still reduces Fire Magic more. Besides, the Taban Suit only has 1 defense point higher than the Ruby Armor.) Inside, you'll find Toma's Crumpled Note. Continue further and you'll be inside Azala's Chamber from Tyrano Lair. You can sit in the chair to see a character laugh. Head down to the next room, then left to get a [SIGHT CAP] from the chest. The monsters here are all beefed up versions of the monsters from Tyrano Lair in the Prehistoric Era. No Reptites though. Those really did die off. Head down the stairs to the right and keep right and through the door. Hit the switch on the left and jump down, but if you want to save first, hit the center switch and do so before hitting the left switch. In this room, hit the left switch to open the dino mouth. Inside is a [POWER TAB]. The right switch just calls monsters. Leave this room and head left. Go down the ladder. To the left is a [FULL ETHER]. To the right is a [POWER TAB]. Head back up the ladder and continue left and around. Before you leave, there is a chest with a [BLUE ROCK] above the exit. The Blue Rock invokes "Omega Flare" for Lucca, Robo, and Magus. Leave and go right. Go down the ladder and all the way to the left, past the ramp, and get the [ZODIAC CAPE] from the half-hidden chest. The Zodiac Cape is the second strongest armor for the girls. Head down the ramp and to the right for a [LAPIS]. Head back to the left and down the ladder. Head left through the door. In this room, take the left dino head since the right is closed. In this room, drop the monsters on the left and head through. Grab the [FRENZY BAND], which ups the counterattack rate to 70%, from the chest and head back. You'll have to kill the monsters here. Drop the monsters on the right and head through. Now in this room are the Rubble from Mt. Woe. Note that wearing a Memory Cap does not prevent Lock All. Continue on. In this room, examine the chest to fall into the cell where the Laruba were being held. Your destination is the cell where Kino was being held, but before going down, head upstairs and grab the [POWER TAB]. Open the dino head while you're here. Head back down to the cell where Kino was being held. You'll notice there's a hole in the wall. S&S and enter it. Head up and try to pass the Rust Tyrano and you'll be thrust into a battle with it.
Even though you have the Ruby Armor to reduce Fire Damage, this guy is still difficult. It's even stronger than the Black Tyrano. Like the last one, this one will start counting down to it's dangerous flame attack. You don't have to worry about that. Worry about it chewing up one of your characters for huge damage. It has all of the attacks of the Black Tyrano. If you remember, it's roar attack makes your HP drop slowly. Have Magus use Magic Wall on the party or Barriers. Marle should cast Haste on the party and Crono should go all out with Luminaire, which he should have by now, if not, Lightning 2 or Confuse will work. Magus should use his strongest spell, and Marle should heal and use Ice 2. Rinse & Repeat. Head up and examine the Rainbow Shell for a scene. Leave and you'll automatically be in Guardia Castle (600 A.D.). After another scene, switch to Marle, Crono, and Lucca and S&S. Next, head to Guardia Castle 1000 A.D. The Chancellor is accusing the King of selling the family Heirloom and took it to trial. As a result, all of the areas except for the Ktchen and the Courtroom are closed off. You'll notice that there is a new stairwell next to the stairs that lead to the Kitchen & Courtroom, but it's blocked for now. Head to the Courtroom and talk to the guards. Enter for a scene. Afterwards you're kicked out of the courtroom. Head down to those new sets of stairs, which lead to the Treasury. Listen in on the monsters, then kill them. All of the monsters here are the same as those from the Cathedral at the beginning of the game and just as weak. Head to the back. You'll get scenes along the way. The treasure chests here contain: [LAPIS x2], [HYPER ETHER x2], and [ELIXIR x2]. Examine the Rainbow Shell for a scene where you get the [PRISM SHARD] and another scene. Head back to the courtroom. You'll get scenes along the way. When you reach the courtroom, the guards refuse to let you in. You get another scene and then you'll automatically end up in the courtroom where a boss battle will commence with a familiar enemy.
Yakra XIII is the decendant of the original Yakra and has come to avenge his death. This battle is similar to the original except he is stronger. He has all the same attacks, plus Blizzard, which causes Chaos. Cast Haste and Protect on the whole party, then go to town on him with Techs. After awhile when he starts to talk about the party's weakness, heal up because he's going to start using Needle Spin for damage in the 300 area. Heal up afterwards and pound him. Before he dies, he'll use Needle Spin on the entire party. Yakra will drop something on the ground in the courtroom. You get a scene and end up in the courtroom. The King and Marle will make up and he will praise Crono. And they didn't need family counseling after all. Melchoir will enter and offer to make armor from the Rainbow Shell. You get a choice of 3 [PRISM HELM]s, the strongest [useful] helmet for everyone except Magus, or 1 [PRISM DRESS], the strongest armor for the girls. Head to the Treasury to choose. I'd choose the Prism Helms. You can steal the Prism Dress from a boss later in the game and depending on where you face them, you can go back and face them again and get the Prism Dress, but I doubt you'll want to go back. Still, I'd choose the Prism Helms. Head back to the courtroom and pick up the [YAKRA KEY]. Head back down the stairs and open the locked chest and the real chancellor will pop out. The Chancellors of Guardia must be very flexible to fit in those chests. Anyway, he will rush off to plan the Moonlight Parade, which is the end of the Millenial Fair. This sidequest is done.
Sidequest 4 | Character: Magus | Era(s): Middle Ages [600 A.D.]
|
||||||||||||||||
|
Items: Full Ether, Doom Sickle, Gloom Helm, Gloom Cape, Magic Tab, Dash Ring, Sight Cap Money: None Monsters: Flea Plus [BOSS], Super Slash [BOSS], Great Ozzie [L.BOSS] Characters: None Recommended Characters: Magus, Ayla, Marle or Frog or Robo To start this sidequest, head to Ozzie's Fort in the Middle Ages. You don't have to have Magus in your party, but it's recommended for his magic and some extra dialogue. First, if you noticed already, the people in Medina Village worship Ozzie now. There's even a statue in the square of him. Anyway, you're about to change history. Head into Ozzie's fort for a scene with Ozzie. He will leave. Follow him. In the next room, he calls Flea, who I thought was dead, to kill you.
Like the battle music implies, this isn't even a boss battle really. He's really easy to kill off. He doesn't use the same attacks as he did in Magus's Castle. The only one he uses is a Flame Heart attack. Kill him off with Techs. Flea runs away. Head into the next room for a scene with Ozzie, who runs away. In the next room, he calls Slash.
Same as with Flea. He starts with his sword this time. He only uses Slash. In the next room, Ozzie will try to trick you into grabbing his precious treasure, which has a Guillotine over it. Ignore it and head right. An imp will come in and get killed trying to take the treasure. Ozzie leaves and you can grab the treasure, which is just a [FULL ETHER]. The real treasure is in this room though. Head all the way to the right wall, then move 1 step to the left. Head down and you will find a secret room with Magus's strongest equipment. The [DOOM SICKLE], [GLOOM HELM], and [GLOOM CAPE]. There's a [MAGIC TAB] here too. Leave the fort and S&S, cuz a tough boss battle is comin up. Head back through and make sure Ayla is in your party. When you reach the next room you'll have to fight all 3 at once.
Yes this is a Legendary Boss and it can get tough. Cast Magic Wall and Haste on the whole party. Ayla should Charm all three of them for their items. The 3 have some dangerous techniques. They have a Fire Sword skill, they can use Crono, Marle, and Lucca's version of Delta Force, and they have a Triple Tech, Bad Impulse, that attacks one character for very some damage. Slash does most of the damage. Kill off Slash A.S.A.P for that reason, but steal the Slasher 2 from him first. Next, focus on Flea Plus, stealing his Flea Vest, then killing him. Last up is Ozzie. Steal his Ozzie Pants and finish him off. He doesn't attack without the other 2. He just stands there opening and closing his mouth (chewing air? O_o). After the battle he runs off. Grab the [DASH RING] and the [SIGHT CAP] from the chests and follow him. Note that you shouldn't equip the Ozzie Pants. They work as a helmet, but they cause Chaos at the start of battle. Follow Ozzie. You get another battle. You can steal another Ozzie Pants from him. This is the same as the Ozzie battle back in Magus's Castle. Hit the switch and a hole opens up. This time, he gets you and you fall into the previous room. Head back for another battle, but you don't get to fight. A cat hits the switch and Ozzie falls to his doom. That's the end of this sidequest. From now on, if you visit Medina Village, the villagers will co-exist with humans and will be much more friendlier. An Imp runs the village and Ozzie is his servant.
Sidequest 5 | Character: Lucca | Era(s): All Eras except Apocalypse and the End of Time

Items: Moon Stone, Jerky, Sun Stone, Wonder Shot, Sun Shades, Rainbow, Prism Specs, Power Tab Money: None Monsters: Son of the Sun [L.BOSS] Characters: None Recommended Characters: Crono, Frog, Robo or Magus Take the Epoch to the Future and enter the cave on an island to the south of Arris Dome. Equip the Ruby Armors. Inside, you'll encounter the Son of the Sun.
This battle can seem hard if you don't know how to go about it. The SoS has 5 flames surrounding it. 4 of them counterattack with a flame attack if you hit them. The other one damages the SoS. You can't do damage to the SoS directly so you have to go through that flame. If you attack the SoS, he'll counter with Flare. Use only physical attacks to find the right flame. When you do, you will know because the SoS will take damage and you will hear a confirmation sound. A quick way to find the flame is to get rid of some of them. You can do so if Magus is in the party and knows Black Hole. If successful, it will eliminate some of the flames, narrowing down the choice. Beware though, because every so often, the SoS will do a Flame Roulette where the flames will spin and switch places. Then you'll have to find the flame all over again. If you have good eyes, you can keep your eyes on the flame during the roulette so you don't have to search. It works for me anyway. An attack you need to watch out for is it's eye laser, which causes major damage. When you see a message that says the "Son is losing its fire" you've almost won. After the battle, the Son flies off. Follow it. Examine it and it will change into a [MOON STONE]. Leave and head back to the Prehistoric Era. Fly to the Sun Keep in the northeast corner of the map and leave it in the sunbeam. Put Lucca in the party and head to the Sun Keep in the Future. It will be gone. Head back to the Present and it will be gone from there, meaning someone took it in the present. If you fly over the Mayor's Manor in Porre, you will see light coming from the house. The Mayor will lie about it because he's selfish. To change this, head over to Snail Stop and buy some [JERKY]. Head back to the Middle Ages and give it (FOR FREE) to the woman who askes for it. Head back to the future and you will have changed history. The Mayor is generous now and he gives you the Moon Stone back. Place it in the Sun Keep in the present and head to the future. Examine it to recieve the [SUN STONE]. You can now create items with it. Lucca will take it back to her house and she and Taban will make the [WONDER SHOT], Lucca's strongest weapon, and the accessory [SUN SHADES]. Next, take the Sun Stone to Melchoir in the Guardia Castle Treasury and he will make Crono's strongest weapon, the [RAINBOW] and some [PRISM SPECS]. By the way, there is a [POWER TAB] in the Sun Keep in the middle ages. This sidequest is now over.
Sidequest 6 | Character: Robo | Era(s): Middle Ages [600 A.D.], Present [1000 A.D.], Other [990 A.D.]
|
||||||||||||||||
|
Items: Lapis, Full Ether x2, Aeon Suit, Full Tonic, Hyper Ether, Aeon Helm, Muscle Ring, Memory Cap, Power Tab,
Green Dream Money: 5000G Monsters: Mohavor, Hexapod, Retinite [BOSS] Characters: Robo Recommended Characters: Marle, Frog, Magus or Crono, then Robo To start this sidequest, you must have told the woman in the Dark Ages Commons to plant the seed. If you told her to burn it you can't do this sidequest. If you didn't talk to her, go there and talk to the woman on the right by the entrance and tell her to plant the seed. Next, head to Fiona's Villa in the Middle Ages and talk to her and her husband, Marco. Leave and head to the southwest of Fiona's Villa.There will be a hole in the desert, the Sunken Desert. Enter it. Head into the center and you will be in a cave. To the north is the exit. In all corners of this area are chests, but you'll encounter monsters in the form of beefed up versions of the fishmen at Sewer Access and Krawlie. All monsters here are weak against Water Magic which is a good reason to bring Marle, Frog, and Magus. After you weaken their defenses with Water Magic, kill them off. The chests in this area contain a [LAPIS], [FULL ETHER], [ELIXIR], and an [AEON SUIT]. To continue on, exit to the south. In this room, there will be something rising out and sinking into the sand. Don't approach it yet, you still have items to get. Be careful not to let it touch you, it appears in several places. The items are [FULL TONIC], [5000G], [HYPER ETHER], [AEON HELM], [MUSCLE RING], [FULL ETHER] and a [MEMORY CAP]. Heal up and approach the Retinite.
This monster looks just like Zombor, but for once, the same strategy doesn't apply. Like all monsters in this place, the boss is weak against Water Magic. It has high defenses until you attack it with Water. The Water magic won't damage it, but it will weaken it's defenses. Use Water Magic then pound on each part with Physical Attacks. Marle should cast Haste on the party and Magus should use Magic Wall on the party. Kill the core off last since the boss fight will get harder once the core dies. Retinite will use alot of dangerous attacks so make sure you keep your HP up. These attacks include Laser Spin (Shadow), Dark Flare (Shadow), Sand Breath (Causes Blind), Blanket Bomb (Fire), Tentacle (Absorbs HP) [All Previous Attacks Upper Part], Sand Cyclone, and Earthquake [Previos 2 Lower Part]. They will both absorb HP from the Core. The Core can also Run Away. After you kill it, leave to the north, grabbing a [POWER TAB] in the center-left of the first room. Go to Fiona's Villa and put Robo in your party. He'll offer to stay and help her regrow the forest. He'll leave your party. Save, then head to the Present. There will be a forest there now and Fiona's Shrine will be in the middle. Enter it. The Nun on the top-right will sell you hats that prevent Status effects. The strongest helmet, the Vigil Hat is stronger than the Aeon Helms your characters might have, but it costs 50000G, and you'll need the money for a later sidequest, so I'd hold off on buying it. Head to the back of the shrine and approach Robo. He's all rusty. Examine him and you'll get a scene. The party will camp in a forest and talk about their adventure. In the middle of the night, Lucca will wake up and you will be in control of her and only her. Take her to the right and examine the gate. This one's red. You end up in Lucca's Room. Read the notebook. It's dated 900 A.D. so that's where Lucca is now. Head downstairs and into the kitchen. Read the tablet there. Head into the living room and watch the scene. Lara, Lucca's mom gets stuck in one of Taban's machines and tells little Lucca to turn it off with the password, but Lucca doesn't know it. The password is LARA and is the same on the SNES controller. Approach the shining dot, press the A button, then enter the password and it'll stop and you will have changed history. Fail and Lara will get her legs chopped off, which is why she's been sitting in that chair the whole game. Anyway, you'll end back up in Lucca's room. You can't leave the room except through the gate. Examine the notebook by the door and then head through the gate. Another scene occurs with Robo and you get the [GREEN DREAM], which lets whoever has it equipped be revived once per battle if they die. This sidequest is over.
Sidequest 7 | Character: Robo | Era(s): Future [2300 A.D.]

Items: Full Ether x3, Full Tonic, Lapis x2, Hyper Ether, Vigil Hat Money: 50000G, 15000G Monsters: Proto 4, Debuggest, Laser Guard, Atropos XR [BOSS], Mother Brain [BOSS] Characters: None Recommended Characters: Robo, Crono, Lucca Put Robo in the front of your party. Fly the Epoch to the future and head south of Proto Dome. You'll find Geno Dome (it's not a dome, it looks just like the factory). Head inside and examine the computer. After a small scene, the doors outside disappear and the door inside opens. Head in. Hop on the conveyor belt for a series of battles. Throughout Geno Dome, you will see messages from someone. This is the Mother Brain, the boss of the area. In this next room, head to the left and go up at the first turn. Turn right and defeat the Proto 4s. Grab the [FULL ETHER] from the chest. Examine the computer for info on how to get through the dome. The ultimate goal is to collect the 2 figurines. Head through the door you passed on your way to this area. Head in and you will notice a pod like the one by the computer. Head to the right and defeat the Laser Guards. Hit the switches so that the one in the center is Blue and the other 2 are red. The pod next to the door will open. Head back to the pod by the computer and walk into it. Robo will be charged. Race back to the door and step in the pod. The door will open. The first Figurine is yours. Go back to the pod and recharge, then run to the entrance of the entire area and step in that pod to open the door. Head in the room and grab the [FULL TONIC] and [50000G]. Outside this room, head to the right. Head around and enter the door by the conveyor belt. Inside, kill the Proto 4s and grab a [LAPIS] and [????]. Head back out and down. Enter the door and ride the elevator. In this area, S&S, then head down. Grab the [LAPIS] from the chest and head to the left. There is a switch high above. Stand at a distance and Robo will jump to hit it. It will get rid of the lasers. Head in and get the [MEGA ELIXIR] from the chest. Continue left and go down the stairs. Get [15000G] from the chest and continue on. In this room after the scene, head to the right and down through the door. Get the [FULL ETHER] from the chest and head back to the stairs you came down to get here. Head up and kill all of the Laser Guards. Examine the green pod on the right and the figurine will be placed there. Now head back to the elevator you used to come to this area except take the door next to it. Follow the path and take this new elevator. Back on the first floor, head left where the blue arrow is. Follow the secret path until you come to a switch. Hit it to reverse the conveyor belt. Now head back and down. Hit the switch to get rid of the laser. On the path to the left, open the pod, then run down the conveyor belt and get off. Head to the charge pod and charge up, then run as fast as you can back to the pod you just opened. Step into it to open the door. Inside this room, get the [HYPER ETHER] and [FULL ETHER]. Walk into the robot and it will start to follow you. Lead it back to the robot guarding the figuring, which is to the left of the entrance of the entire area. It will be a bit difficult because it will get caught around corners. Basically, it's like when you had to take the little girl her cat at the Millenial Fair. When the robots meet, they will deactivate. Open the chest for a [VIGIL HAT] and grab the figuring. Head back to the first elevator and head upstairs. S&S then head down for a scene and a Boss Battle.
This battle is very easy despite it being 1-on-1. Atropos XR has all of the same attacks that Robo has or will get. Her attacks are weaker though except Robo Tackle will do a good deal of damage. She will use Cure Beam to heal herself for around 300 HP. Just use Robo's strongest techs and you will beat her. Heal if needed. After the battle you get a scene and the sad music plays. Anyway, Robo gets Atropos's Ribbon, which ups his stats. Head back and S&S, then head over where you left the other figurine. Place the figurine you have into the other pod and the doors will open. Head inside for a scene and then a boss battle.
The Mother Brain doesn't have any serious attacks. Her displays heal her. She uses her strongest attack when all 3 displays are gone. Many people say to leave 1 display alive, but most of your attacks will probably do around 1000 and the displays heal for 900. Also, her strongest attack will only do between 100-200 to the whole party, if not, less, which can be healed with Robo's Heal Beam or a Lapis. Kill off the Displays and then use your strongest techs on her. She'll die quickly. After the battle, Robo gets his 2 strongest weapons, the Terra Arm and Crisis Arm. The Crisis Arm has an Attack Power of 1, but when Robo's HP is below 10, it gets higher. You're probably better off with his Terra Arm though since I doubt you'll want to keep his HP below 10. End of sidequest. You won't be able to enter Gino Dome any more and you'll automatically end up outside.

Items: Tools, Masamune II, Power Tab, Hyper Ether x2, Kali Blade, Siren, Shiva Edge, Valkereye, Nova Armor
Moon Armor Money: None Monsters: Sentry, Reaper, Defunct, Base, Defunct+Base Cyrus [BOSS] Characters: None Recommended Characters: Robo, Crono, Lucca Take the Epoch to Choras in the middle ages. Head into the Cafe and talk to the man drinking at the table. He'll say all his tools are gone. Next, head to the present and head into the Choras Inn. Talk to the man drinking there and he'll let you use his tools. Head to the Residence and talk to the woman there for the [TOOLS]. Head back to the middle ages cafe and give the tools to the man. He'll leave to his house. Head into the Residence and he'll offer to fix up the Northern Ruins. He and his men will leave. Head to the Northern Ruins and talk to him. He'll say he fixed what he could, and will fix the areas where the monsters hide after you get rid of them. Head to the left and downstairs. Kill all of the monsters here with Magic Attacks, but don't grab the chest yet, and head back upstairs. Head to the right and kill all of the monsters here. Don't use Shadow Magic because they'll absorb it. Once you're done, head back to the Carpenters House and talk to him. He'll offer to fix the ruins for 2000G. Pay the bastard and head to the ruins to talk to him. He'll leave again. Head to the left and all the way in until you reach a grave. Put Frog in the party and examine it. You will get a scene with Cyrus and the [MASAMUNE] will become more powerful. Equip it on Frog. (The scene is wierd because I had Magus right there in the party.) After this, the ghost of Cyrus, which would appear to the left of the entrance of the Northern Ruins in the present as an undamagable, unbeatable boss, will disappear. Now I would tell you to head back and explore the right side of the ruins, but the holes are still there even though the monsters are gone. Make another trip back to that lazy, money-grubbing bastard and pay him 2000G to repair the rest of the ruins. Head back to the ruins and explore the right side. Examine the Sealed Chest on the right, but don't open it. Don't open the normal chest either. Head into the center door, kill the monsters, and examine the 2 Sealed Chests, but don't open them either. Head to the Northern Ruins in the Present and open the Sealed Chest on the right for a [MOON ARMOR], the strongest armor in the game for guys. Open the Sealed Chests in the back for Crono's [SHIVA EDGE] and Marle's [VALKEREYE]. Since you already have Crono's Rainbow, which is stronger than the Shiva Edge, you don't need to equip it, but the Valkereye is Marle's strongest weapon. In the first room after you enter the right side in the lower-left corner is a hidden [POWER TAB]. Grab the [HYPER ETHER] from the left side of the ruins and the [MAGIC TAB] near the top-left corner or the room with Cyrus's Grave. Head back to the Middle Ages and grab all of the chests. The normal chests contain the same items, but the Sealed Chests contain weaker items of what you got in the present. Crono's [KALI BLADE], Marle's [SIREN], and [NOVA ARMOR], the second strongest armor for the guys and third for Magus. Equip the Nova Armor on Frog or Robo. Give Crono the Moon Armor. This sidequest is finished.

Items: Mega Elixir x6, Magic Seal, Elixir x2, Vigil Hat, Nova Armor, Haste Helm, Zodiac Cape, Power Seal, Speed Tab x4
White Rock Money: 30000G Monsters: Laser Guard, Mega Mutant [BOSS], Peeping Doom, Incognito, Martello, Goon, Synchrite, Panel, Boss Orb Side Kick, Metal Mute, Flyclops, Cybot, Ruminator, Tubster, Blob, Alien, Giga Mutant [BOSS] Terra Mutant [BOSS], Lavos Spawn [BOSS], Zeal [BOSS], Mammon Machine [BOSS], Zeal [BOSS], Lavos [BOSS] Characters: None Recommended Characters: Your Strongest This dungeon is a pain in the ass mainly because it's supposed to be like the last dungeon even though it's optional. It's possible to move on without completing it. The only thing is you miss out on experience, items, and tech points if you need 'em, but if you beat this and save, on the save menu where it displays the name of the chapter, there will be a new chapter, "The Final Battle". Now lets start. Fly the Epoch to any of the Eras but the Future and Prehistoric Eras. The Black Omen doesn't exist in the Prehistoric Era and you won't be able to enter it in the Future. If you plan on visiting the Black Omen more than once then enter it from the Present or Middle Ages. Enter it from the Dark Ages only if you want to go through it once, because once you beat it in an Era, it will disappear from that Era and all future Eras. Save before you enter here. To return to the Epoch after boarding the Black Omen, examine the shining light behind where the party lands. Head forward and kill the Laser Guards at the door, then enter. Make sure the party is equipped with items that prevent "Chaos". After a scene with the Queen Zeal, you get a boss battle.
This boss inflicts Chaos on the party unless you have equipment that prevents it. It also casts other status effects like Sleep, Blind, and Poison. You shouldn't have to worry about Blind and Poison, but make sure you use a Heal when a party member is put to sleep. Other than that, unload with Techs and Combos. Afterwards, you can either continue on or head back, Save and Heal, and then continue on. The second choice is best since the monsters here are tough. In the next area, head up. S&S if you didn't do so after the boss and continue on. In this next room, the statues on the walls are actually monsters [Panels] that you have to fight. They can quickly be killed with Physical Attacks. They don't disappear until after battle though. In this next area, you will encounter 3 sets of monsters called Boss Orb and Sidekicks [1 Boss Orb and 2 Sidekicks]. The Boss Orb uses "Lock All" at the start of battle. You know what that means right? A shitload of Tech Points if you need 'em. The Boss Orb goes down easily in like 1 hit so I don't think he gives out the Tech Points. The Sidekicks hold the Tech Points, but just like the Rubble, they are hard to hit and they run away after a certain amount of time, but each one you kill gives you 100 Tech Points. My strategy was to equip Crono with the Frenzy Band so he can counter. Usually at start of battle he would counter the Boss Orb after it used Lock All, then have everyone focus on one Sidekick at a time. If the Boss Orb wasn't killed at the start of battle then I killed him off last. Oh yeah, equip Lucca with the Prism Specs so she can have her Maximum attack power (she attacks for over 1000 HP). In fact, keep it equipped for the rest of the game. In this next area you'll find Metal Mutes and Flyclops. The Flyclops look like Red Scouters. They aren't fire-element meaning more than Fire spells will damage them. Hop in the teleporter in the next area then head out. Elevator Ride: Battle 1: 2 Cybots Battle 2: 2 Goons *Note: You can avoid Battle 2. Right after the first battle, open the Menu. Heal or somethin, but when you close it you shouldn't have to fight the second battle. Leave. Heal up. In the next room you'll encounter 2 more Boss/Sidekick battle. Head right and follow the path. In the first chest is a [MEGA ELIXIR] and in the second, which is to the left of the exit, is [30000G]. Head through the exit and follow the right path for a [MAGIC SEAL]. Don't bother with the left path because there are no chests. Go through the exit. In this hallway, grab the [ELIXIR], [VIGIL HAT], [NOVA ARMOR], and [MEGA ELIXIR] from the chests, then S&S. If you are low on items talk to the Nu on the left and he will sell you the latest items. Talk to the Nu on the right if you want to leave the Black Omen and come back later (if you leave you will have to start the Black Omen all over again). To leave, choose to "Wake Up". When finished, grab the [MEGA ELIXIR] and [HASTE HELM] from the chests behind the Nus, save, and continue on. The door is in the center of the wall. Examine it. Head to the right and you will have to battle a Tubster, a monster that looks like Heckran. It counters for alot of damage so finish it quickly. Head up. In this hallway you'll have to fight 2 Cybots, avoid or fight 3 Incognitos, and avoid or fight a group of Ruminators. By where the Ruminators are coming out is a chest with a [ZODIAC CAPE]. Leave through the door in the northeast corner. You'll encounter 2 Sidekicks in this room. You can sneak by without fighting them if you walk past them when their eyes are closed, but why would you want to? They don't attack, the Boss Orb is weak, and you might get 200 Tech Points if you win. Continuing on, you'll encounter a Flyclops and 2 Goons. Take care of them and grab the [MEGA ELIXER] from the chest. Down the stairs are 2 Boss Orbs and 4 Sidekicks. I doubt you'll be able to kill all of the Sidekicks before they run away, but it's possible. Leave the room from the south and grab the [POWER SEAL] out of the chest on the left. Head all the way to the south. In the southeast corner is a chest with a [SPEED TAB] and in the southwest corner is the exit. It leads to the room where you fought the first Tubster. Head all the way to the left, grab the [SPEED TAB], and then head back to the right and through the door you just passed. Head up the stairs and stand on the square in the center to be teleported to the next floor. Head out of this room. This is the most annoying room to me because it's huge. Head to the left at the first intersection. You will have to fight 2 Aliens and 2 Blobs. The Blobs will use MP Buster if you use Techs on them so only use Physical attacks on them. The Aliens will use an attack that you will see from the 2 most powerful forms of Spekkio, that can kill you in 1 hit. When you reach the left-most side of the room, head south to get an [ELIXIR] from the chest. Head north and to the right at the second intersection. Up the stairs are 4 Sidekicks and 1 Boss Orb. At this point you might not need the Tech Points but try anyway. Head down the stairs on the bottom-right and head up. Head left at the intersection and grab the [SPEED TAB] from the chest. Head up and around the statue, but when you get to the wideopen area that looks like it could be a battle area, hug the bottom of the area because it is one. Not the very bottom but right above it. You'll avoid 2 Aliens this way. Head down, grab the [MEGA ELIXIR], and continue left. Now head up and leave this room. S&S because a boss battle is coming up. Head north to encounter:
Same strategy as the Mega Mutant except it only causes Sleep and Poison, but it steals MP after you attack it with magic and has the dangerous Life Shaver attack, which lowers a characters HP to 1. Heal immediately after it uses that. After the battle, head back and S&S, then continue north. Hop in the teleporter and on the next floor, head out and activate the elevator. Battle 1: 4 Ruminators Battle 2: 2 Goons Leave north. Right inside the entrance is a glowing panel. I'm not sure, but I think stepping on it causes a battle. Follow the path north. You'll encounter 2 bats flying back and forth. Touching them summons 2 Goons. To avoid them wait til the first bat reachs the bottom and run in its path. When it is flying back up, the other one is flying down so you can run past to avoid that battle. Continuing on, you'll encounter another vortex with 2 Tubsters. Head through the door at the end of this area. In this room, killing the 4 Panels makes a Save Point appear. S&S, then grab the chest up the stairs on the left for a [SPEED TAB]. If you have Magus, Ayla, or Robo in the party, remove them and put someone else in. Head up into the wide area and the next boss will appear.
This battle will be a bit difficult. The Upper Part uses Hallation, an attack that causes the entire party's HP to go to 1. It absorbs HP from the Bottom Part and causes Chaos, plus it has some normal attacks. The Bottom Part has more HP, but don't worry about it, just attack the Upper Part ONLY. This is because A) You will avoid counterattacks and B) the Bottom Part dies when you kill the Upper Part, but it just sits there for a couple of seconds so don't do anything once the Upper Part dies. Grab the [WHITE ROCK] and [MEGA ELIXIR] from the chests and then head back and S&S. You can switch back any characters you took out if you want, but Magus is not recommended just yet. Frog and Robo are definately recommended. Head north on the catwalk and through the door. You get to fight a Lavos Spawn.
Same as the Lavos Spawns on Death Peak. Just attack the mouth or risk a counterattack from the Shell. Frog's Heal or Robo's Heal Beam will come in handy. Head north, defeat the 5 Panels (the Door is a panel too), and then S&S at the newly appeared Save Point. Get your best party ready and head inside. You get a scene with Queen Zeal and then a Boss Fight with her.
Zeal uses Hallation over and over again, which lowers the party to 1 HP. If you have Frog or Ayla, Frog Squash and Dino Tail will come in handy, as will Heal and Heal Beam. If you have Frog and Marle, Twin Cure will help alot. Zeal's other attacks are just Energy Ball and an attack that absorbs MP. Kill her off with Techs, but dedicate someone to heal. Right after you have to fight:
The Mammon Machine is difficult. First off, heal all HP since you haven't had time to heal from the last battle. Frog's Masamune absorbs energy from the Mammon Machine and heals him. The Mammon Machine will store power from your attacks. This is only if you used Magic. After awhile he'll release this energy on the party. Just use Physical Attacks. He will eventually store the physical attack energy and increase his defense. Switch to magic then. Keep up this strategy and you'll win. And a scene and battle after this. Hey, that bitch stole Magus's Battle Theme.
She still uses Hallation so be ready to heal up. Also, don't attack either hand unless you are stealing from them. They have powerful counterattacks that will kill a party member. Just attack the head. Since they are far apart from each other, Magus can use Dark Bomb on the head without having to worry about the hands. The head does most of the attacking, while the hands do weak shadow-based attacks. The head also uses MP Buster and attacks that are water, shadow, and lightning based. After you kill her, you will have to fight Lavos's first form if you haven't already. [See Strategy Below: Final Boss #1 - Part 1: Lavos as Various Bosses] |
