You can get to Lavos from 3 Points (4 if you're playing a New Game+): The Black Omen, The Bucket at the End of Time,
and by visiting the Apocalypse in the Epoch. If you choose the first 2, you will be able to leave after beating the
first form of Lavos if you want to. If you do the third, you won't be able to leave because you will have skipped the
first form. Also if you choose the fourth, which is getting to him from one of the telepods in Leene's Square in New
Game+, you won't be able to save and turn back, plus you'll only fight the shell and not the first part of the first
form. Choose your options and head through. Make sure you have everyone's Strongest Techs, which is their final techs.
Crono - Luminaire Lucca - Flare Marle - Ice 2 & Life 2 Frog - Leap Slash Robo - Shock Ayla - Triple Kick Magus - Dark Matter
Part 1 of Lavos is very easy. Lavos has attack modes that he switches between. These modes are in the form of bosses that you have fought before. He doesn't change into them, but he calls "Bits" to act accordingly depending on the boss he uses. These bosses include the Dragon Tank, Guardian, Zombor, Masamune, Nizbel(?), Magus (First Fight), Black Tyrano & Azala, and Giga Gaia. He has all of there attacks. Use the same strategies you use on each part. You can heal and switch characters in between each form so use this to your advantage.
This is the same as the battle with him in the Ocean Palace only you're stronger and he has lower HP. He can't kill you in one hit either (unless somehow, you're terribly weak). His attacks take off a good amount of HP so heal up, but save your best items for later. He also causes Chaos so be ready to heal that. Head inside the hole in the shell and you will end up in "???". If you used the Black Omen or the End of Time Bucket to reach Lavos then there will be a Save Point and a Gate that leads back to the End of Time. If you used the Epoch to crash into Lavos then this is where you will end up. If you head back to the End of Time, you do NOT have to fight the first form of Lavos again. Follow the path until you reach Lavos's second form.
Inner Lavos has an attack that prevents you from protecting against Status Effects. It's called Protective Seal and can only be used while the arms are alive. Kill the arms before he uses it. He doesn't revive the arms once they're gone. When you're done, focus your best techs on him, but make sure you keep your HP up because he might use his strongest attack, Shadow Doom Blaze. Also, you have another battle coming up without a break in between. You find out Lavos's True Purpose and then you can fight the core.
This is a tough battle. You are tricked into thinking the large freak in the middle is what you have to kill, but you are wrong, the one on the right is what you have to kill in order to beat the game. First, have Crono finish off the Lavos Bit (on the left) with Confuse. If he doesn't kill it in one hit, have Frog use Leap Slash (or Lucca use a physical attack) to finish it off. Afterwards, the Lavos Core will lower its defense. Next, you'll need to protect the party from the Center Bit. Use Magic Wall or Barriers and Protect or Shields to cut down on the damage. The Center Bit has the ultimate attacks that can kill your party. The most dangerous is Grand Stone: The Ultimate Physical Attack, which targets the whole party. Another dangerous one is Dreamless: The Ultimate Magic Attack, and then there is Evil Star, which reduces that party's HP by half. The last of the dangerous attacks is Invading Light which causes Slow. Its weaker attacks are Crying Heavens/Hidden Blow, which is a Lightning attack on one member and another casts a random status effects. Kill off the center bit to prevent these. Killing off any bits will prevent Invading Light since it's a Triple Tech. Use the strongest Techs you have to kill of the bits. My stategy is to use Luminaire (Crono), Dark Matter (Magus), Leap Slash and Cure 2 (Frog), and Flare (Lucca). If you want, get Frog down to low HP and then use Frog Squash. After one bit or both bits have been gone for awhile, the Core will revive them. Stop attacking the Core and kill the Left Bit off, then focus on the remaining 2 with the techs mentioned above. Feel free to use any items you want since this is the final battle. You should use all of the Elixirs, Mega Elixirs, and Hyper Ethers you need. After some time the Core will die. If any of the bits are alive while the Core dies, they will die automatically. Congrats, you beat the game. |
