Halo 3 Walkthrough

Unlimited Gamer » Devil May Cry 3 » Boss Guide

Throughout the game many bosses will be fought, some times you will fight a boss more than once at later parts of the game, and at one point you will be forced to reface at leaset 3 of them in mission 18.

Hell Vanguard
» Sub-Boss
» Mission 2
» Recommend Style: Trickster

This is one of those bosses you will fight a few times, I believe he starts popping up around mission 7 again. Either way this will be a difficult battle just for the reason that I doubt you have the controls and such on lock down yet. The reason I recommend trickster is because you really need to be quick to avoid his attacks. At the start of the battle he will simply stand there, at this time I would fire as many shots on him as possible. Make sure you keep him targeted because he will disappear and reappear either under you or behind you. If he comes behind you get out of the way because he will charge at you swinging. Its kinda hard to avoid those attacks just because of your style level. Next the Vanguard will begin coming from the floor, but you get fair warning as the floor will begin rippling and at this point you should dodge away from it. While the Vanguard flies out of the ground get off a good amount of shots on him. After both of these attacks he will reappear and kinda just sit there so I recommend using strider if you have learned it and unleashing some combos. As soon as you see the spark and you both fall back it means you have canceled each others attacks, at this time jump into the air away from his attack and come back down on his back with your rebellion. If you are having a hard time and need more health replay the first level a few times to get more orbs.

Cerberus
» Boss
» Mission 3
» Recommend Style: Trickster

Ok Cerberus is your first full boss and well, the hardest of this game will become very clear to you if you are having doubts. I recommend using the divinity statue and loading up on health and getting your pistols leveled up if you have the money. This is sort of a dodge, attack, dodge type of boss battle. You will notice the beast is covered in ice, your first means of business is to shoot all the ice off, meaning his 2 feet and 3 heads. While you are doing this there are a few attacks you need to watch out for. From the beginning he will drop ice on you from the ceiling, when he does this you can either use tricksters dodge or the roll technique to dodge the falling ice, note he roars to the ceiling before preforming the attack. Cerberus will also smash the ground around him with his paws shotting out a trail of ice, this can easily be avoided by just jumping into the air. Now this next attack is the one you are concerned about, Cerberus will lower his head and prepare to charge, at this point if you have knocked all the ice off of his body he is vulnerable where ever you attack him, so when he starts to charge do a little dodge roll to jump out of the way. Now because this is his first attack like this it is very slow, charge at him with strider and you can do mad combos, continue hitting him even as he gets back into positions, just avoid his close range head buds and claw slashes. Now just repeat this method if you didn't get him down to 50% health yet. Once his health hits 50% he will start roaring and his tone will change to red. The beast will now be much faster.

Now the dog has a few attacks that he will use more often now, also note that because he is so much faster you will often be dodging one attack and the dog will already be preparing or doing another attack. You will often be forced to dodge numerous attacks of falling ice. Now another attack that he will use more often is the ice breath, he will absorb ice from the ceiling and freeze the floor, the best defense here is double jump or you might get frozen when you come back down on it. He will also use an ice blast where he fires a ball of ice from his mouth, this is generally easy to avoid so you shouldn't have to much problem with this one. You will again have to continue shooting the ice of his body, and I suggest you try and have your hands on the gun trigger at all times even while avoid attacks. When the boss starts to charge you again you will notice he slides back into place much faster, at this time you should rush him and get off as many hits before he covers himself with ice again. Because this is your first real battle I suggest you load up on healths and such because this can be a frustratingly hard battle. Once you have defeated the boss you will be awarded the Cerberus, which is a 3 sided numb chucks sort of weapon.

Agni & Rudra
» Boss
» Mission 5
» Recommend Style: Trickster or Gunslinger

To start off I recommended the Gunslinger style because it allows you to hit both enemies at the same time while you are in the air. Now when the battle begins the two will rush at you and jump into the air, very simply roll or jump out of there range. Both enemies have a unique ability, the red sword has the ability of fire attacks and the blue sword has ice abilities. The two will continually gang up on you or one will hit and the next will follow, I recommend simply jumping out of the way and then attacking from behind. The battle will remain the same roughly the entire time. I suggest you focus on on both of the enemies, when you knock the sword out of one of the beast hands go to town on that body, you can do a lot of damage while the body is down and without the sword. Once you have managed to kill one, the reason I said to focus on both of is so the second one still alive is low on health. Shortly after one of them falls the one left standing will call the other sword and combine them. From here on the battle gets about twice as hard, the leftover is much faster and has much more powerful attacks. With the swords combined he con form tornadoes and send waves of fire at you, so I recommend disposing of him as soon as possible. So for those you that did not focus on just one enemy this second part of the fight should go relatively fast, but also note his attacks do more damage and are slightly harder to avoid, so I suggest getting out of his way as often and quickly as possible. Once he falls you will be rewarded the Agni & Rudra swords and then Mission 5 is over.

Vergil
» Boss
» Mission 7
» Recommend Weapon: Rebellion
» Recommend Style: Trickster

As a fair warning, I wouldn't even try this fight unless you have about 3-4 Vital Star L, these allow you to heal all of your health. Now before fighting Vergil you may wanna rest your hand because chances are you will not defeat him first try but if you are ready you can. Ok from the start of the battle you should know Vergil is very fast, he has the ability to teleport all over the place and charge you with sword attacks, hopefully you have achieved level 2 of trickster and learned Air Raid with the Rebellion, because it is almost impossible to avoid Vergil's attacks. His sword slashes are all over the place and dish out a good amount of damage. I would say the best way to fight Vergil is to continually jump into the air and fire with the pistols. While in the air and firing it slows down your fall to the ground, as so as you are getting close to falling come down with a downward slash and then unleash as many combos as possible. Having the strider is very good for this boss battle because Vergil will often run away from you and turn around and charge, so you beat him before he charges at you. You will more than likely use a lot of your Vital Stars, because even though you can avoid some of his attacks hes bound to land plenty of hits regardless. Once this battle is over you will be rewarded a nice cut scene.

Leviathan's Heart Core
» Boss
» Mission 8
» Recommend Weapon: Cerberus/Rebellion
» Recommend Style: Trickster

Ok This boss can be rather frustrating. To begin with there will be minor enemies spawning at all times, so you will need a weapon that can hit enemies behind you and in front, which is why the Cerberus is the perfect weapon. Now you have to options here, you have to kill either the left or right parts of the core, each time you kill one of these the main core will open allowing you to unleash attacks. I recommend switching to the rebellion and giving the main core a strider hit, then use the million hit combo, if any enemies get around you switch to the Cerberus. Now the core will not stay open to long so as soon as it closes jump away from it. Now at this point you really need to pay attention to multiple things around you. The main core will be the one you need to watch, from the beginning it has to attacks, one is a single laser that swoops across the area 3 times. Simply jump out of the way as it is very deadly. The second attack it uses is 3 balls of energy, these can also be deadly especially if all 3 of them hit you. But also note that both of these attack can hurt the enemies as well, as for the laser attack it will dispose of all the enemies on the field.

Now once the core has closed up the portion of the core you attacked will once again be vulnerable. I suggest you spend some time killing minor enemies as well as one portion, this way you can keep your devil trigger meter high and use some of it against the core when it reopens. Now something you will notice, regardless of the enemies on the field you are not gaining any orbs or getting health orbs, also note that your devil trigger meter never seems to stay full. That is because the left side of the core absorbs orbs and the right side absorbs your devil trigger. Now as the battle continues and you get the core past 50% health its attacks will slightly change, it will now attack more often and the laser attack will now have two lasers on each side swoop across the area. Once this enemy has fallen you will escape from the Leviathan and mission 8 will be over.

Nevan
» Boss
» Mission 9
» Recommend Weapon: Angi & Rudra/Rebellion
» Recommend Style: Trickster

Well at this point in the game you should have a good feel for controls and know its always a good idea to enter a battle with a few vital stars. This battle is not so much hard as it is annoying, Nevan will continually use teleport to opposite sides of the room and use her long distance attacks to keep you as far away as possible. To start out with Nevan will use her bats that are all around her to attack you, the bats are filled with electricity, my suggestion is dash passed them and get up close to Nevan and try and damage the bats she sits on. When you are close Nevan will raise the ground around you with black spikes, your only real defense is to get away from them. Now you should know Nevan's weakness is close range, once you damage the pillar of bats she resides on you will be able to do some real damage, I suggest Devil Triggering and do as much damage as possible. You will notice that the ground around you is becoming black, once you see the ground raise quickly jump away from her. She will again have a pillar of bats and you will have to destroy them in order to get her back down.

Nevan will continually use stronger and stronger attacks, once you see the ground start to glow jump into the air, if you have Air Hike I suggest using it, while in the air fire your Ivory & Ebony to remain there for a few seconds longer. Now quickly charge in and try to attack her, if you notice some electric pillars forming around her get away from her fast, she will now fire pillars of electricity, the best thing you can do is watch them and dodge accordingly. Now that you have done some damage toward the end of the fight she will start trying to kiss you. Beware of this attack it is very deadly, I suggest watching her movements when she thrust her arms at you, well.. jump and shoot, as long as you keep your distance you should be ok, once she is low on health and resting on a small pillar of bats I suggest again using Devil Trigger and finishing her off. After the battle you will be reward the unique Nevan which has the ability to use bats and electricity.

Beowulf
» Boss
» Mission 11
» Recommend Weapon: Angi & Rudra/Rebellion
» Recommend Style: Trickster

Man why is it you have to take the beef because of your father. No matter This huge beast deserves an ass kicking by the looks of him. Now At first Beowulf will just punch you, very simply roll dodge the first two and jump out of the way of the power punch, after he has done his little attack come down on him with the rebellion and deal some damage. He will begin his attack again so just jump out of the way. Every time you make some distance I suggest you fire off some rounds just for the sake of doing damage. You will notice that Beowulf often stomps the ground, when he does so a cage falls from the ceiling and he uses it as a punching bag and hits it toward you, simply roll out of the way and shot him. At one point he will do this a few times and later in the battle just on occasion. Beowulf will often grow angry and get on all fours, he will then run around like a bull and charge at you, simply dodge and get off a few sword hits and then get out of his way. He will use the same attacks almost the entire time, but later in the game he will spread his wings and lightning will come from his body, this attack is not that powerful but is very hard to avoid, I suggest using the trickster style and dashing away followed by some rolls. Eventually he will begin punching you again and then continue your dodge and hit pattern. Beowulf will eventually fall with not to much trouble, now you will have to take the item and get back to the bridge room to end the Mission.

Geryon
» Boss
» Mission 12
» Recommend Weapon: Angi & Rudra/Rebellion
» Recommend Style: Trickster

The Trickster style is essential in this battle, and if you haven't gotten it to level 3 I highly suggest doing some leveling up in mission 1. The battle will start on the bridge and the Geryon will charge at you and then teleport to the other side of the bridge and again charge at you, while you keep your distance fire your Ebony & Ivory as often as possible and make sure to jump above the Geryon when it gets close because getting hit directly can prove painful. Once the horse stops you will need to get to him as fast as possible, this is why the Trickster level 3 style is essential. You can teleport to him and then dash for any more needed distance, at this point if there is still some distance use the strider to get up close and do some damage. After you have done about 1/4 of the Geryon's health the bridge will fall and you will now be in a round area. From here on the battle completely changes.

The Geryon will now run circles around the area at the same time firing missiles at you, simply roll dodge in the opposite direction, because of the rotating camera angel is not hard to get caught of guard on which way to dodge. Once it is done firing at you it will move to the center of the arena, as it does so its carriage will slide around if it hits you it will do a lot of damage, so try and keep your distance or double jump to avoid it. While its in the center charge at it, release the Devil Trigger and go to town on it. If your lucky enough to do a lot of damage the Geryon will fall down, allowing you do do a lot more damage. Now the Geryon will sort of again disappear and continue what he was doing on the bridge. But now he releases these black warps, these slow down your movements and allow the Geryon a better chance of hitting you. Towards the end of the battle you will find that the Geryon uses these time warps the rest of the battle, so even while the Geryon is in the center just sitting there it will still use them to slow your progress. Once the Geryon has fallen you will be rewarded the Quicksilver Style which allows you to slow down time and dish out a lot of combos.

Vergil
» Boss
» Mission 13
» Recommend Weapon: Rebellion
» Recommend Style: Trickster

This time around your fighting Vergil and the power of Beowulf, not only that but Vergil is fluidly using his Devil Trigger to attack you. For the most part you can use the same strategy as you did the first time you fought Vergil, stock up on Vital Stars, and then go into battle. Because Vergil is now using different powers he has become harder, but with the skills you have learned it sort of balances out. Ok when fighting Vergil he will use a lot of his old techniques as well as those of Beowulf, so its a good idea to stay up in the air and fire at him from above, then attack him. Vergil will often use long distance attacks or charge at you from afar, when he starts to run away from you now is your chance to attack him with strider and get some quick damage, you can usually get in 2 strider's if your quick enough and do a fair amount of damage. Now when Vergil transforms into a demon your best means of defense is running and shotting, since getting up close will prove useless because he is almost invulnerable to your attacks so no use risking your heal trying to stop him, but melee attacks will shorten his Devil Trigger but its at your own risk. Vergil will also use a Lightning attack, so just dodge that. Like before Vergil will be vulnerable after he preforms an attack so get up in his face and do some melee damage. Once you take him out you can rest and enjoy the big twist that I am sure some of you saw coming. Once you start the next mission you will get the Beowulf.

Lady
» Boss
» Mission 16
» Recommend Weapon: Rebellion
» Recommend Style: Trickster

This may very well be the easiest boss battle all game, Her attacks are slow and very easy to dodge, just stay on your toes and keep targeting her so you know where she is at all time. Ok as you know Lady has a rocket launcher and she is not afraid to use it, she will shot rockets at you from a distance, my suggestion is to strider her before she even gets the chance to fire. If you are to far away from her you can simply dodge jump whatever and you will be fine. After you do some damage and knock her back she will fire shots at you while she falls so beware of that and just roll in the other direction, every once and while she will just shot you for whatever reason, again as long as your not running towards her these attacks are no threat. She will on occasion jump up on top of the library and toss grenades at you, easy enough don't be where the grenades are and there is nothing threating. Finally she will shot mini-missiles at you, when she hits her rocket launcher on the ground she is preparing for this attack, I suggest using strider on her, this will not only stop the attack but damage her. Just continue doing so and you will eventually stop her. Afterward you will be reward the very satisfying Kalina Ann(her rocket launcher).

Doppelganger
» Boss
» Mission 17
» Recommend Weapon: Rebellion
» Recommend Style: Trickster

Ok so first thing to notice are the plates around the room, these are you best friends and the only way for you to do any damage to this foe. As expected this is a shadow of your inner devilish self, he has your attacks and some others that are dark and evil. Now, you cannot hurt this guy by just attacking him because well hes a shadow, you can't hurt your own shadow. So whats a shadows weakness? Light, use the plates around you and hit them at the right time to hit the the Doppelganger with the light. When you first start the battle I suggest checking how many slashes it requires to make the light show, this way you can hit them in advance and then get one last hit when he rushes you. Now that you have got him stunned in the light do as much damage as possible, but know he will not stay vulnerable for very long. Just repeat this and he should go down without to much trouble. As for his other attacks, he will shot black balls of energy toward already lit plates in order to flip them back around. Lastly he will create this black shadow of spikes around you, simply dodge it to avoid this attack. Also note changes are you will not be able to get enough hits on one plate to open it at one time, so get the first 1-2 hits then jump out of the way of the Doppelganger's attack and then prepare for him to charge again, when he does so hit the light and then attack him. This battle can take a while but with a spare Vital Star or to you should be able to handle the battle. After you defeat him the last Style is awarded the Doppelganger, which allows you to have a shadow of yourself owning those around you.

Invading Hell
» Boss
» Mission 18
» Recommend Weapon: Rebellion
» Recommend Style: Trickster

Ok In this mission you will have a choice of who you choose to face, I will give you the information you need and combinations of bosses you can face. Because in this mission you re-fight previous bosses. So prepare yourself, also note scattered around this level are Green orbs so there is no need to use Vital Stars before beginning a second boss.

The following colors correspond to the platforms you can choose:

  • Orange - various demons
  • Light Blue - Cerberus
  • Gold - Gigapede
  • Green - Agni and Rudra
  • Red - Leviathan
  • Purple - Nevan
  • White - Beowulf
  • Blue - Geyron
  • Black - Doppelganger
Also note that you are only required to light a path and connect at least 3 orbs, so use the above list to pick enemies you could fight easier. So use the following variations at your own will:
  • Blue, Violet, Green, Red, Orange, Golden, White
  • Violet, Blue, Light Blue, Golden, Green, White
  • Black, Green, Golden, Red, Orange, Light Blue
  • Green, Violet, Black, Light Blue, Golden, White
  • Blue, Green, Light Blue, Violet, Golden, White
  • Golden, Green, Orange, Light Blue
  • Black, Light Blue, Golden, White, Violet
  • Violet, Green, Blue, Black
  • Green, Light Blue, Black
  • Green, Light Blue, White

Geryon
» Boss
» Mission 19
» Recommend Weapon: Rebellion/Kalina Ann
» Recommend Style: Trickster

Surprisingly this guy isn't to difficult, the old charge in and do as much damage as possible seems to work well here, I highly suggest the use of the Kalina Ann, it being his daughters weapon it packs a serious punch. Even though he has the power of Sparda he can't control it hence his.. misshapen figure. He will hit you with his.. things when you get up close just jump in the air to avoid it and come back down swinging. He will also use his tentacles to shot like part of his body at you, simply dodge them. He will also leave the battle field and let his little minions do some damage, this is were the Kalina Ann comes in handy, the easiest way to dispose of these guys is jump and fire, the Kalina Ann will take out like 3-4 at a time. You can also sword slash them fairly easily there not much of a challenge just annoying. Finally around mid heal your brother will come aid you in the fight, you will be able to control him slightly and the screen will prompt you how to do so. Now I suggest just focusing on Arkham and he will go down fairly easily. After this battle is over you only have one more mission left, so prepare yourself.

Vergil
» Boss
» Mission 20
» Recommend Weapon: Rebellion/Kalina Ann
» Recommend Style: Trickster

Ok, this is the last fight with Vergil, at this time I suggest about 5 Vital Stars, mastery of the Rebellion and the rocket launcher helps to. The trickster style will also greatly aid you. Now, Vergil is faster and stronger than ever and he is also using your fathers sword. So as usual he has his basic attacks and you know how to deal with them by now. For most of the time I highly suggest this combo, jump up to avoid his attacks, fire your Ivory & Ebony to stay in the air while he attacks, then come down on him with the Rebellion, after getting off a combo hit him with the Kalina Ann to do a good amount of damage. I suggest repeating that method throughout. Now to stay alive, when Vergil jumps into the center of the area and goes airborne you better start running, he will either come at you multiple times from above or send out demonic waves of sword slashes at you, so you really need to have trickster mastered and need to take full advantage of those extra dashes on the ground and in the air. Please note all of these new attacks are fairly deadly, and when he transforms into a demon I suggest you do the same because it is very difficult to avoid his attacks you its best that you take the least amount of damage as possible. Don't worry about using items and such, after all this is the last mission so do whatever it takes. Once your brother falls you will get a nice cut scene and finally the credits will follow.

Hint: If you kill 100 + enemies in the credits you will be rewarded a bonus ending.

Thats all for bosses you just beat Devil May Cry 3.. now play it again on a harder level. After all you know have the use of all the weapons to start out with.
