Biography

Barret is as hot headed as ever in the animated sequel to FF7. But despite that he does seem to have improved his personality since the earlier title. Barret is no longer the run and go kind of guy he is much more laid back and reliant on Cloud. Barrets role in the movie is short and really only there because he is one of the main characters in FF7. One thing that has changed about Barret is his Gun arm has been extremely upgraded.

Role in Final Fantasy VII (Game)

Barret is the leader of a Terrorist group Avalanche and takes it upon himself to take down the Shinra Inc. who are depleting the planet of its Mako and thus leading to its inevitable demise. However Barret is on to something much bigger. Shortly after Cloud falls from after arming the second reactor; you learn that the Shinra are about to drop down the plate over Sector 7 and kill everyone just to kill the Avalanche group. While attempting to stop the Turks from bringing down the plate Barret loses almost the entire original Avalanche team including Wedge and Briggs. From that point on we learn more about Barrets past and that he was mostly attacking Shinra because of a broken promise they made to him in the past and thus costing him his village and best friends lives. Though Barret is a very hot headed character he is still has an important role and despite how he acts he cares for Marlene whom was the daughter of Dane who was expected to have died in the attack against his town by the Shinra.

Role in Advent Children (Spoilers)

Barret has one of the least important roles as a former Avalanche member in the movie. It would seem as though like many of the other original characters the developers didn’t want to focus much on Barret and I feel that’s because we well know everything about him already. Barret isn’t as complex as Tifa or Cloud so his only role in the movie is some screaming and fighting against Bahamut. He really doesn’t do much else in the movie and wouldn’t add or take from the plot by not being there.
