Jenova has a more of an implied role. As it seems Jenova has not yet been completely eradicated from the planet as expect which is why all the children are plagued by the infection Geostigma. Unlike in the game she never really appears and her only purpose is for the reunion which will be explained in the spoiler section.
Role in Final Fantasy VII (Game) |
Jenova’s role in the game is really just that of some what controlling Sephiroth. Jenova doesn’t want to go to the promise land; she wants to erase life from the entire planet as her purpose intended. As a result she was sealed by the Ancients to not be able to use her full power and eventually unearthed by the Shinra Inc. She was then used for a number of experiments and eventually led to the creation of Sephiroth. After Sephiroth realizes the truth he seeks out Jenova and takes her from the Shinra, after that he leads a conquest to becoming one with the planet and would then continue out the will of Jenova and well end the world basically. However after Sephiroths destruction instead of being destroyed she is simply trapped in the lifestream of the Northern Crater.
Role in Advent Children (Spoilers) |
Jenova has a very small role in the film, though the entire film is based on the location and retrieval of Jenova it would seem she never really appears like she does in the game. If would seem however that after the battle in the Northern Crater she was recovered by the Shinra Inc. for what reasons I am unaware. In any case while the Shinra took Jenova they ran into the SHM and thus was the first appearance of the 3 unknown men. We learn later that Kadaj seeks Jenova for Reunion and we later suspect that to be the revival of Sephiroth. This is because after Kadaj says. “This is my reunion,” he well… turns into Sephiroth. Other than that reference of Jenova is only verbal and she is only seen inside of the container that the Shinra placed her in.
