Kadaj plays the role of the new bad guy in the story and has a striking resemblance to that of Sephiroth. It would seem as though the whereabouts of Kadaj and his group are unknown though they are believed to be larva of Sephiroth it is never really explained why or how. He is a considerably strong opponent and serves as an annoyance to Cloud and forces him to get involved. It would seem Kadajs main goal is the acquiring of the piece of Jenova that the Shinra found but for reasons unknown. It would also seem that Kadaj wields a rather unusual sword called "Souba," which is Japanese for Twin Blade.

Kadaj is the leader out of the SHM and seems to be the negotiator of the team as well. He is continually seen with Rufus and unlike expected they are not working together by any means. It would seem that Kadaj seeks the piece of Jenova that the Shinra had taken from the Northern Crater, but the Shinra have no intention of handing that over because they are more than likely aware of how they could use it. Throughout the movie he is continually fighting against Cloud and Team as they try and find the piece of Jenova, though in the end his search proves pointless as Rufus had the piece the entire time. Upon discovering this Kadaj goes nuts but ends up with the Jenova in his inventory. Following this Kadaj goes on to battle with Cloud while still carrying the Jenova piece, and eventually ends up merging with the Jenova piece as a last resort against the battle with Cloud, and thus the arrival of Sephiroth once again.
