Marlene is the Daughter of Dane and once lived with her real parents before an accident or well more like a slaughter of her home town by the Shinra. She is a young kind girl that offers ease to the Avalanche crew and gives them something worth protecting and fighting for.

Marlene lost her parents at a young age after her home town was attacked by the Shinra. Because her father and Barret were very close, Barret felt responsible for the death of Dane and the people in the Village and to try and atone he decided to take care of Marlene and protect her. Marlene is constantly the cause of more problems though the team doesn’t see it as her fault. In attempt to protect Marlene Aeris becomes captured by the Turks thus leading to more problems. Throughout the game she is a constant motivator especially for Barret to fight on.

Marlene works with Tifa in the new bar/shelter where they take care of kids that have fallen victim to the Geostigma that is plaguing the people of Midgar. Marlene continues to be a strong motivation for the team as she is captured and put in arms way. Because of this it helps Cloud realize that he is still needed and not completely helpless. Throughout the movie Marlene is always spoken about as it would seem those of the Avalanche team are still relying on her for motivation to fight and protect the people.
